thank you for purchasing a Pacific Arc PXB Series Parallel Straightedge Drawing Board. With proper care and handling your PXB will provide you with years of accurate and productive use.
General Usage Information
The PXB is shipped with the straightedge locked in the middle of the board. To release the straightedge, loosen both of the brake knobs (A). To lock the straightedge in any position on the board, tighten the brake knobs gently. (see Figure 1)
The PXB can be used in the flat or elevated position. Open or close the legs (D) underneath for desired angle. Rubber grip tracks (E) under board catch on the edge of a table to bring the drawing surface closer to the user and increase the working angle for comfort. ( see Figure 2)
The straightedge is designed to be lifted slightly off the surface of the board when sliding it up and down so that the work beneath it is not damaged or smudged. There is sufficient clearance to put 3/16" foamboard under the straightedge.
To Fine Tune Straightedge Parallelism
There may be times when you tape a project to the board and find that the existing lines aren't exactly parallel to the straightedge. Instead of pulling the project off and retaping, you can fine tune the parallelism of the straightedge.
Release brake knobs (A). (see FIgure 1)
Loosen (don't unscrew completely) the fine tune parallel knob (B) on either side of the straightedge.
Adjust the position of the end bracket (C) until the straightedge is parallel with your work.
Retighten the fine tune parallel knob.
if additional fine tune adjustment is necessary, repeat on the opposite end of the straightedge.
To Adjust Parallelism When Fine Tuning Is Not Enough
Make sure the fine tune parallel knobs on both sides are tight (B). (see Figure 1)
Release brake knobs (F). (see Figure 3)
Loosen (don't unscrew completely ) one of the wire capture knobs (G) on either side of the straightedge.
Make sure board is facing up and slide the end bracket (H) along the wire until the straightedge reaches the desired parallel position.
Retighten the wire capture knob securely.
To Replace or Reset the Wire
Note: A Phillips screwdriver is needed to replace or reset the wire.
Start with the blade centered and locked in the middle of the board.
Remove the small Phillips screw from wire capture knob (I).(see figure 4)
Loosen wire capture knob enough to thread the wire under the T-bolt (j).
Thread wire through all four pulleys ( see Figure 5) with ends meeting in the middle.
Crosswire should go under the wire cover plate (K) in the center of the board. (see Figure 6)
Attach spring to loops at each end of wire (L). Spring should be in the center of the board and should ride above the wire cover plate, not under it.
Tighten wire capture knobs and reinsert small Phillips screws. Tighten securely.
Care and Handling
Keep top adjustment knobs tight to ensure straightedge stays parallel.
Avoid over tightening adjustment knobs or damage may occur.
Clean board surface and underside of blade with mild detergent and soft cloth. Wipe dry.
When transporting or storing the PXB, Lock the straightedge at the bottom edge of the board to minimize the chance of damage.
Protect your PXB from damage by storing and transporting in a protective case.
Do not attempt to move straightedge with brakes tightened.
Avoid direct exposure to sunlight and extreme heat.
Troubleshooting
if straightedge does not slide easily up and down check that:
Brakes are not draggin
Wires pass properly trough pulleys
Pulleys are spinning freely
Spring is not running into pulleys
